Five people have been taken to hospital following a two-vehicle crash in Castledawson, County Londonderry.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) said it responded to a 999 call at 06:45 BST on Tuesday following reports of a crash on the Tamnadeese Road.

Six emergency ambulances were dispatched to the scene, along with the air ambulance and its emergency medical service team.

Following initial treatment at the scene, three people were taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, while two others were treated at the Antrim Area Hospital.

The northbound lane of the Glenshane Road, Castledawson, has been closed to traffic from the Castledawson roundabout, following the collision.

Motorists are advised to seek an alternative route for their journey and plan for delays.
