Parts of County Armagh saw some snowfall overnight

A yellow weather waning for snow and ice across Northern Ireland is in force until midday.

Sleet and snow showers will continue to fall throughout Thursday morning.

Highs between 3-6C are forecast and there will be some dry and sunny spells, and windchill due to the northerly breezes.

There were lows of -3C at Altnahinch Filters in the Antrim Glens on Wednesday night, and 4cm of snow has been reported at Lough Fea in County Tyrone and 2cm at Glenanne in County Armagh.

Police has advised road users to exercise caution as some roads are untreated and icy conditions mean driving is hazardous.

Driving conditions will be dangerous in places as salt/grit may have been washed off or diluted by wintry showers and subsequently road surfaces have frozen again.

On Thursday night wintry showers will die away but a widespread frost is expected as temperatures drop as low as -3 or -4C in some rural areas.

The average day time high at this time of year is closer to 10C.

Temperatures are expected to rise a few degrees closer to average over the coming weekend.
