Two masked men threatened an employee at a fuel station before carrying out a robbery in the early hours.
It happened at an Esso garage on Wrexham Road in Rhostyllen, Wrexham, at 00:20 BST on Sunday.
North Wales Police said the robbers fled with cash and tobacco.
Det Insp Chris Owen said detectives were following “good lines of inquiry”, adding that there was not believed to be any wider threat the community, with such incidents rare in the area.
