The new owners of Atletico Madrid have been confirmed as minority investors in Wrexham football club.

Apollo Sports Capital (ASC) last month became majority shareholders in Spanish giants Atletico, with the deal set to be formalised in the new year.

They have now opted to inject cash into Wrexham in a deal that will see the club’s celebrity figureheads Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney remain as controlling owners of the Championship club.

There are no details on the amount of investment or the shareholding being acquired by ASC, although it is thought to be less than a 10% stake.

The move will also provide further financing for ongoing development of the club’s Stok Cae Ras home.

In a joint statement, Reynolds and McElhenney said: “The dream has always been to take this club to the Premier League while staying true to the town. Growth like that takes world-class partners who share our vision and ambition, and Apollo absolutely does.”
