Wightman, 31, believes having two major competitions in the UK in 2026 is an opportunity he may not get again in his career.
The former Edinburgh Athletics Club runner has struggled with injuries since his triumph in Eugene [Oregon] two years ago, but bounced back strongly in Tokyo.
Now Wightman is targeting double glory on home soil next year.
“We also have a European Championships in Birmingham, which I’m sure is going to be electric as well,” he said.
“So there’s a lot of reasons why Brits are going to make sure we step up next year because there’s nothing quite like performing in front of a home crowd.”
He added: “I hope that we can try to make the most of next year because you don’t know if we’re going to get another one like that.
“I feel like now that I’ve managed to work out what my year’s like, this is possible before I finally hang up the spikes for good at some point.”
