Women’s Super League: Birmingham sign Canada’s Marie Levasseur

Women’s Super League newcomers Birmingham City have signed Canada international Marie Levasseur.

The 29-year-old defender joins from Montpellier after making 63 appearances across three seasons for the French club.

She had previous spells at FC Fleury, Metz and ONS Oulu after representing the University of Memphis team.

“I’ve always wanted to play in the WSL. I think it’s one of the best leagues nowadays on the women’s side,” said Levasseur.

“I’ve heard about the project that the women’s side are doing and, talking with the coach and the staff, I feel like the team identity really speaks to me.”

Levasseur has 18 caps for Canada after progressing through their youth teams and making her senior debut in 2015.

She becomes Birmingham City’s fourth signing this week after the arrivals of Jade Rastocle, Millie Turner and Lisa Naalsund.

“Marie’s mentality really stood out throughout the recruitment process,” said Birmingham manager Amy Merricks.

“She wanted to challenge herself. She believed in what we’re building and she was excited by the opportunity to be part of this next chapter.

“She fits the identity we’re building and we’re excited to see the impact she’ll make.”
