Woman dies after being pulled from canal near Lichfield

Det Sgt Oscar Hall said the force was also seeking to identify the woman “as a priority”.

She was described as white, in her 60s or 70s, approximately 5ft tall, of a slim build and with red hair.

She was wearing dark-framed glasses, a black ribbed jumper, black trousers, beige open-toe sandals, a khaki-coloured coat and gold jewellery.

Police said two witnesses saw the woman between 08:00 and 08:45 BST near Swan Bridge in Whittington, where she was believed to have left a navy or black umbrella.
