A woman in her 20s has been arrested for possession of an offensive weapon following the lockdown of two primary schools.

On Monday, Ysgol Kingsland and Ysgol Gymraeg Morswyn in Holyhead, Angelsey, were briefly closed following unconfirmed reports of a person carrying an axe in the Kingsland area.

North Wales Police said it conducted extra patrols and thanked the public for their information.

Both schools reopened quickly, with Anglesey council praising staff and the community “for their cooperation and understanding”.

The force said it understood the “level of concern” caused by the incident and said it would maintain foot patrols in the area on Monday afternoon.

It also urged the public not to speculate while the investigation continued.

Anglesey council said the schools were locked down for a “very short period” and reopened once police confirmed it was safe.

It added staff followed established lockdown procedures, “with the safety and wellbeing of pupils and staff remaining the priority at all times”.
