Wolverhampton attack victim Navpreet Singh was awaiting child’s birth

The family of a man who died in a suspected murder in a car park have told how he was “eagerly awaiting” the birth of his second child.

Navpreet Singh, 26, died in hospital after suffering serious head injuries in the parking area off Dudley Road, Wolverhampton, early on Wednesday.

In a statement issued through West Midlands Police, his family said he was a “loving husband, devoted father, brother and son”.

A 20-year-old man remains in custody after being arrested on suspicion of murder on Friday, while two others, aged 23 and 34, have been bailed pending further inquiries.

“His wife is utterly heartbroken and inconsolable at the loss of her beloved husband, with whom she had been building a beautiful future,” the family statement continued.

The relatives added he was a “kind, hardworking and caring man who placed his loved ones above all else”.

Mr Singh was taken to hospital by friends after the attack, which police now say happened at about 01:00 BST, later than initial reports. He was confirmed dead a little more than an hour later.

Police asked anyone with information about the death to contact the force.
