White vinegar hack to remove sock stains makes them squeaky-clean again ‘overnight’

Despite your socks being white and pristine when you first purchase them and consistently washing them on a regular schedule, you’ll soon notice that some stains set in more and are more difficult to remove than others.

There are multiple ways you can whiten your socks, like using a kitchen staple, dishwashing tablets, that are said to be able to make your socks pure white again without bleach, and now another method using vinegar is being uncovered. White vinegar is an agent that is a powerful tool for cleaning, considerably affordable, and safe to use.

Like lemons, white vinegar has acidic properties, specifically acetic acid, that effectively targets even the most difficult stains.

To properly clean your white socks with vinegar, add a cup of white vinegar to a litre of boiled water, then toss your socks in and leave them to soak overnight.

Your white socks should be sparkling white when you check on them in the morning. At this point, just pop your socks in the washing machine and put them on a normal spin cycle to eliminate any dirt that may still be present, as well as get rid of the vinegar smell.

Vinegar has also been proven to remove limescale from household appliances, particularly your showerhead.

Speaking to Daily Express, expert Brenna Ryan, who works at Victorian Plumbing, backed the use of vinegar for removing limescale.

“Vinegar is a great option for removing limescale, as the chalky buildup reacts with the acidity of vinegar helping to break it down,” Brenna said.

“The trick with this hack is to fill the ziplock bag with white vinegar and insert the shower head, tying it with an elastic band to keep it in place.”

To remove limescale from your showerhead, the viral trend involves attaching a Ziploc bag that has vinegar in it to your showerhead.

You then leave it on for about 15 minutes to assist in getting rid of the the build-up.
