West Midlands Safari Park reveals names for new tiger cubs

Three tiger cubs born at a wildlife park have been named after the public were asked for suggestions.

The Sumatran tigers, two girls and a boy, were born at West Midland Safari Park on 17 January, to 13-year-old mother Dourga.

One of the girls was named Nova, meaning new star, and the public were able to choose the other cubs’ names.

The attraction in Bewdley, Worcestershire, has revealed that the other girl has been named Nadirah, which means “rare” or “precious”, with the male cub named Naresh, meaning “king”.

In a post on Facebook, keepers said visitors could still catch a glimpse of the cubs through new peepholes while they isolated from the main tiger enclosure.

After they have had their 12-week health check, they will then move to the enclosure, the Tiger Tropics area, and join big sister Lestari, who is nearly two, and their father Nakal.
