Mark Selby and Stephen Maguire will meet in Sunday’s Welsh Open final in Llandudno.

Selby, the 2008 champion, beat Luca Brecel 6-3 to book his place in the final, while 2013 winner Maguire held his nerve to beat Ali Carter 6-4 in a late finish at Venue Cymru.

Selby had edged John Higgins 5-4 in a cagey quarter-final, but showed his intent with a 131 break in the opening frame of Saturday’s semi-final.

Brecel, who beat the tournament’s only surviving Welshman Jackson Page, cleaned up to take the second frame, before Selby clinched the third.

The Belgian then took both the fifth and sixth frames to lead 3-2, but Selby came storming back to win the final four.

The second semi-final started with an 84 break for Carter and a 118 for Maguire, but then mistakes crept in as both struggled to take opportunities in tight frames.

After trailing 3-2, Maguire built up a 5-3 lead before Carter pulled one back.

Maguire eventually took the 10th frame to book his place in a first ranking final in five years.

The winner will receive £100,000 in prize money, while the runner-up takes home £45,000.

The last meeting between Selby and Maguire was in round one of the 2022 Masters, which Selby won 6-3.
