Van fire closes stretch of M42 in Worcestershire

A stretch of the M42 is closed northbound in Worcestershire after a van caught fire.

The carriageway is shut while emergency services attend after a Ford Transit driver reported the fire at about 09:15 GMT on Saturday.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said the driver pulled over when the vehicle became engulfed by flames near junction 2 for Alvechurch by Hopwood Park Services.

Firefighters extinguished the flames, with delays building up towards junction 1 for Bromsgrove as traffic was held.
