Urdd Eisteddfod: Newport to host for the first time in 2027

Newport city councillor Emma Stowell-Corten called it “a great opportunity” that could leave “a positive legacy for generations to come”.

“We’re keen to involve as many businesses and community groups, both in the city centre and across Newport, as possible in the celebrations, so that everyone can experience the buzz of a major cultural event,” she added.

The Urdd Eisteddfod travels around Wales each year, and was held in Maldwyn, Powys, this year.

Its Arts and Eisteddfod Director Llio Maddocks said: “One of the most important elements of Eisteddfod yr Urdd is the fact that it’s a travelling festival and therefore visits areas that have never hosted the festival before.”
