Ukraine and Russia accuse each other of violating Easter ceasefire | World News

Ukraine and Russia have accused each other of violating an Orthodox Easter ceasefire.

The governors of two Russia border regions claimed Ukrainian drones had injured five after attacking targets in the Kursk and Belgorod regions.

Meanwhile Ukraine’s military said Russian forces had violated the terms of the 32-hour truce 469 times.

This included assault actions, shelling and drone strikes, they claimed.

The ceasefire had been announced by Russian President, Vladimir Putin, on Thursday, and went into effect at 1pm on Saturday GMT.

Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, had agreed to abide by it.

Ahead of the ceasefire, Ukraine and Russia swapped 175 servicemen each.

It came as US-led negotiations to reach a settlement had been halted, owing to the war in the Middle East.

US and Iranian negotiators were meeting in Pakistan on Saturday seeking to end their six-week war.

Alexander Khinshtein, governor of Russia’s Kursk border region, claimed a Ukrainian drone had struck a petrol station in the town of Lgov, injuring three including a child.

Khinshtein claimed the attack took place after the start of the truce.

In the adjacent Belgorod region, governor Vyacheslav Gladkov, said two were injured in Ukrainian drone strikes.
