Two men have been injured in a suspected homophobic attack in Londonderry city centre.
They had made their way on to the Peace Bridge shortly before midnight on Saturday when they were assaulted.
One of the men sustained a head injury and the other facial and hand injuries.
Police are treating the attack as a homophobic hate crime and are appealing for anyone with information or footage to contact them.
Foyle SDLP MP Colum Eastwood urged anyone who has information about the assault to come forward.
“No one in Derry should have to worry that they might become the victim of a violent crime just because of who they are,” he said.
“It is disgusting and totally unacceptable.”
Sinn Féin councillor Sandra Duffy said there was no place in society for homophobia.
She described the assault on the two men as a “repulsive incident”.
“Those responsible for this reprehensible behaviour must be brought to justice,” she said.
