Two men held over shooting of PSNI detective

Two men have been arrested in connection with the attempted murder of Det Ch Insp John Caldwell in February 2023.

The senior detective was off duty when he was shot several times at a sports complex after coaching a youth football team in Omagh, County Tyrone.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said two men aged 37 and 73 were arrested in Ardboe, County Tyrone, and were detained under the Terrorism Act on Tuesday evening.

They have been taken to Musgrave Serious Crime Suite for questioning.
