Two men have been arrested and charged following five deliberate fires in Aberdeen.

Four fire-raising incidents happened at properties in Provost Rust Drive, Cummings Park Crescent and Birkhall Parade between Friday and Sunday.

A fifth incident, when a car was set on fire, happened in Manor Avenue in the early hours of Monday.

Police Scotland said the men, who are aged 35 and 51, were expected to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

Det Insp Sam Buchan said no-one was hurt, but described the fires as “reckless and violent acts”.

The officer said: “We would like to thank the public for their assistance with our investigation to date and continue to appeal for information as further inquiries progress.”

Insp Simon Lewis-Dalby said the incidents continued to cause significant fear and alarm in the local community.

He said: “There is not believed to be a risk to the wider public and there will be an increased police presence in the area over the coming days.”

Anyone with information has been asked to contact Police Scotland or Crimestoppers.
