Tributes to woman, 49, killed by falling tree branch in Didsbury

A woman who was killed by a falling tree branch has been described by her family as a “beloved wife, daughter, sister, daughter-in-law and aunt”.

Jennifer Higgins, known as Jen, died at the scene in the West Didsbury area of Manchester at about 19:15 BST on 30 August.

The 49-year-old was the founder and joint managing director of Manchester public relations firm Carousel, which she ran with her husband Gawen Higgins.

In a statement, her family also said she had been a “dynamic and widely respected member of the Manchester business community”.

“The family of Jen Higgins are heartbroken to confirm she lost her life in a sudden and tragic accident,” the family statement said.

“She was a beloved wife, daughter, sister, daughter-in-law, and aunt; a vibrant and supportive friend to many.”

The family have asked for privacy while they mourn their loss.

“You will no doubt empathise with the deep and profound shock we are feeling at this moment,” they said.

Mrs Higgins was struck by the falling branch near the junction of Barlow Moor Road and Stanton Avenue, said Greater Manchester Police.

It is understood the branch fell from a tree on private property.

An inquest into her death will be opened on 23 September.

Her death came three weeks after a 32-year-old woman was killed by a falling branch in Lancashire.

Madia Kauser was struck while walking with her husband and two children in Witton Country Park in Blackburn on 11 August.
