Tree on overhead wires at Beattock blocks West Coast Main Line

The West Coast Main Line has been blocked in the south of Scotland after a tree fell on the tracks and damaged overhead wires.

Network Rail Scotland reported the incident at about 08:30 on the line at Beattock, between Motherwell and Carlisle.

It sent response teams to the site and said they would use chainsaws to clear the tree and then assess any damaged caused.

Repairs are expected to be completed by about 21:30. Operator Avanti West Coast issued do not travel advice for journeys north of Preston.
