Three people have been taken to hospital after multi-vehicle crash on the A8 near Edinburgh Airport.

The incident at about 09:20, between the Newbridge and Gogar roundabouts, led to long delays for drivers trying to reach the terminal.

The Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) dispatched three ambulances, two special operations response teams, a paramedic response unit and a critical care paramedic.

Edinburgh Airport urged passengers to allow additional time to reach the airport and consider alternative modes of transport where possible.

Pictures from the area showed one vehicle on its bonnet and a second dark vehicle, on the opposite carriageway, with extensive damage to its front bumper and windscreen.

Both carriageways are separated by a grass central reservation. Officers also erected a black screen on the road.

Traffic Scotland later said westbound traffic could access Edinburgh Airport as normal, with eastbound drivers are being asked to follow diversions.
