Three companies have been shortlisted for a £205m contract to upgrade almost four miles (6.4km) of the A9 to dual carriageway.

The work on the Pitlochry to Killiecrankie section involves building or revamping nine bridges – including new crossings of the River Tummel and Highland Mainline railway.

London-headquartered Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering Ltd, Salford-based Kier Transportation Ltd and Irish firm Wills Bros Civil Engineering Ltd have bid for the work.

It forms part of the Scottish government’s plans to complete the dualling of the A9 from Inverness to Perth by 2035.

The contract is expected to be awarded in autumn 2026 following evaluation of the final tenders and the new dual carriageway is expected to be operational by the end of 2030.

The work will also include a new bridge alongside the existing Clunie Bridge over Loch Faskally.
