The third round of the Memorial Tournament was suspended because of thunderstorms and will resume on Sunday with JT Poston and Ryan Gerard in a share of the lead.

The American pair were nine-under par at the sixth green when the hooter sounded to signal thunderstorms in the area for a second time.

After a delay of an hour and 40 minutes play was eventually suspended for the day at Muirfield Village in Ohio.

The third round will resume at 07:30 local time (12:30 BST), with the final round to follow in groups of three off the first and 10th tees.

Sam Burns is third on eight-under, one shot ahead of fellow American Eric Cole. England’s Tommy Fleetwood and Americans Wyndham Clark and Keegan Bradley are four-under.

England’s Justin Rose is two under. World number one Scottie Scheffler, aiming to win the tournament for a third straight year, and Masters champion Rory McIlroy among a clutch of players on one under.
