“Our advice and support centre team are available to any students impacted by this incident, along with the university’s student support services,” it said.

Mia Brown, 19, lives in the flat from which Matthew Gilbert fell, but she had not met the law and criminology student.

“It’s quite chilling,” she said.

“It doesn’t feel real. We’ve had support because people found him, people knew him, people may have had classes with him.

“Anyone can reach out, no matter how big or small, we have got someone to talk to.

“I was hoping he would survive. It’s just horrible.”

Swansea University said its thoughts and condolences were with Matthew’s family.
