Surrey: Billy Monger given 49-day driving ban after crash

As well as being disqualified from driving, he was ordered to pay fines and costs totalling £2,694 when he was sentenced on Friday.

Rick Scholey, supervisor for the Road Traffic Collision Team, said Mr Monger was not paying attention when he lost control of his car “causing significant damage to the vehicles” before hitting a hedge and wall belonging to a nearby house.

He added: “Thankfully, no one was in the road at the time otherwise this could have had far more serious consequences.”

Later in October, Mr Monger will take on a 3.8km ocean swim, followed by a 180km coastal cycle and a marathon in Hawaii when he aims to break the record for the fastest double amputee to complete the annual Ironman World Championship.

He raised more than £3m for Comic Relief in 2021 by walking, cycling and kayaking across England over four days.
