Stormont Budget: Minister meet to agree funding for 2025/26

“I have worked hard with my executive colleagues over the past number of weeks to progress the budget.

“We as an executive have a set of priorities in terms of our programme for government commitments that we want to deliver on, and so I’ve been working with my executive colleagues to make progress.”

Following a budget reallocation exercise in October, known as a monitoring round, Archibald said the executive still faces funding pressures of £180m.

The last time Stormont ministers passed a budget in April, then Health Minister Robin Swann opposed it, warning it would be catastrophic for his department.

Archibald said she hoped ministers would back the budget but that she appreciated the circumstances they were working in.

She said that if approved, the budget will go out for public consultation before Christmas, then coming back to the executive for final approval and then being brought to the assembly in the form of a budget bill.
