St Helens: Tommy Makinson fined and given three game ban for head contact

St Helens winger Tommy Makinson will miss their next three Super League games having been given a ban for head contact.

The ruling, external from the Rugby Football League’s (RFL) Match Review Panel follows Saints’ 42-6 defeat by Hull KR, during which Makinson was shown a red card for a high tackle.

The 32-year-old was subsequently charged with a Grade D head contact charge and fined £250.

Makinson will now miss the club’s fixtures against Huddersfield Giants, Warrington Wolves, and Castleford Tigers as they battle to retain a top six spot during their end-of-season run-in.

The decision adds to a growing absence list after Lewis Dodd and Daryl Clark were sidelined with injuries earlier this month.

Three Hull KR players were also charged in the review.

Kelepi Tanginoa, Elliot Minchella and James Batchleor were charged with Grade B offences with the latter being given a one-game ban.
