Speed cameras attacked on Welsh mountain road shown on Top Gear

It said there had been no injuries on the road since the cameras were installed at a £250,000 cost.

Police said since they were wrecked the route had become high-risk and fixing them would cost £180,000.

Ch Insp Gareth Morgan, of road safety group GoSafe said: “Whilst there may be a small proportion of society who think that this is acceptable, it is important to remember that these cameras were installed following deaths on this road.”

Under the headline “Highways to heaven”, Welsh government tourism agency Visit Wales has described it on its website as “one of Britain’s best roads”.

Visit Wales wrote: “Also known as ‘the Top Gear road’, after Jeremy Clarkson was filmed driving it, this swooping mountain pass is a favourite with car magazine test drivers, bikers and motorists – and, consequently, the local bobbies.”
