Wakefield Trinity have released back-rower Seth Nikotemo on compassionate grounds.

The 22-year-old, who last featured on 28 June, made 29 appearances for the club and has now returned to Australia.

Nikotemo’s contract had been due to run to the end of next season.

“He had an issue back at home that he needed to go and look after,” head coach Daryl Powell told BBC Radio Leeds.

“It was a real quick one and we really wanted to look after Seth and make sure everything was all right. As soon as he got back home it was a situation where he needed to stay really.

“We’ll miss him as a player and as a person because he’s been great while he’s been at the club but sometimes there are bigger things at play.

“I spoke to him the other day and he’s OK, he’s cracking on. I wish him all the best for his future.”
