Scotland captain Sione Tuipulotu signs new Glasgow Warriors deal

New Scotland captain Sione Tuipulotu said he was “relieved to be staying” after signing a three-year contract extension with Glasgow Warriors.

The Australia-born centre was a key player on Warriors’ run to the United Rugby Championship title last season, having joined in the summer of 2021.

The 27-year-old was named Scotland captain for the Autumn Nations Series and began with a 57-17 victory over Fiji on Saturday.

Qualifying through his Greenock-born grandmother, it was a 27th international appearance for Tuipulotu.

“My biggest emotion is that I’m relieved to be staying,” he told the club website., external

“Whenever I get into contract negotiations, there’s so much noise around, so I’m delighted to be able to put pen to paper.

“I’m really happy in Glasgow and there are things that I want to achieve – and need to achieve – in the next three years here that I can’t wait to get stuck into.

“I just want to keep driving forward with this group. We’re all hungry for more, and I’m keen to do my part in bringing more silverware back to Scotstoun.”
