Rings of Power crew captured filming on the scenic Dorset coast

The owners of a coastal cottage have had a glimpse of Hollywood magic and caught on camera filming for the Amazon series, The Rings of Power.

Some of the actors included Robert Aramayo as Elrond, Lord of Rivendell and Trystan Gravelle in the role of Pharazôn, the last King of Númenor.

The owner of BillWatch Cottage at Portland Bill in Dorset also witnessed a helicopter flying over Pulpit Rock and a local restaurant said some of the film crew had come in for breakfast.

The third season of the drama, which is a prequel to the events in JRR Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, was confirmed in February.

The show, which has received mixed reviews, is set in the second age of Middle-earth and follows an ensemble cast of characters as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of the evil Lord Sauron.

Portland Bill, the southernmost point of Dorset, is famous for vistas of the coastline and is part of the Jurassic Coast, which makes it suitable for epic scenes the franchise is known for.

The BBC understands filming at the location has now finished.

People on social media have been commenting on the actors and one highlighted the pointed ears, which are a feature of elves in Tolkien’s world, describing them as “more pointed and leaf-shaped than human”.

Lauren Boyle, who works at the nearby Lobster Pot restaurant, said lots of people had been talking about it locally.

“They had all of the characters dressed up up by Pulpit Rock and they had the helicopter going around filming all around the rocks, the car park was completely full,” she said.

“I was not working but I was told everyone came out and said that they were filming Lord of the Rings.”

Ms Boyle said they had kept it “very private” but it had been “exciting for Portland”.

She said some of the production crew had even come into the restaurant for breakfast.
