An “extremely rare” cover of the Nirvana album Nevermind – which was signed by all members of the band – has been sold for £18,600.

The three Nirvana members signed the LP after a 700-person gig at the Bierkeller, in Bristol, in 1991 before they hit global stardom.

The record sleeve was autographed for a local fan by the late lead singer Kurt Cobain, drummer and now Foo Fighters front man Dave Grohl, and bassist Krist Novoselic.

After being stored for more than 30 years in a loft, the sleeve went under the hammer at auctioneers, Wessex Auction Rooms, in Wiltshire on Wednesday.

Auctioneer and music specialist, Martin Hughes, previously told the BBC the album was “possibly the best-signed example ever to come to market” and called it “extremely rare”.

The Nevermind album propelled the American rock band into international success, with millions of copies sold worldwide.

The gig in Bristol where the album cover was signed was part of their Nevermind European Tour, where they played in Italy, Germany and Edinburgh.

The Bierkeller venue in All Saints Street, which also hosted The Stone Roses, closed in 2018 for redevelopment.
