Police are treating the death of a man at a tower block in North Lanarkshire as a suspicious targeted attack.

The 26-year-old was found dead in a flat at Shields Court in Motherwell at about 16:30 on Monday, but officers believe he may have died the previous evening.

A force spokesperson said: “We are of the opinion this is a targeted attack with no wider threat to the public.”

Detectives are keen to trace a man seen on CCTV footage in the area wearing a dark jacket with the hood up and dark trousers at about 22:35 on Sunday night.

They have asked anyone who saw anything suspicious or the person described between 22:15 and 22:45 on Sunday to contact them via an online portal.

Ch Insp Steven Conn said: “I understand there will be concern in the local community following this incident.

“There will be an increased police presence in the area and anyone with concerns can speak to officers.

“We would ask the public to be mindful of not speculating on the circumstances as this can affect the investigation and possible future legal proceedings.”
