Police have named two women who died in a two-car crash in Moray.

The accident happened at about 12:30 on Tuesday on the A98 between Buckie and Fochabers, near Enzie, and involved a Vauxhall Insignia and Peugeot 2008.

Amanda Lawson, 32, from Mosstodloch, who was driving the Vauxhall, and Janet Cowie, 77, from Buckie, who was a passenger in the Peugeot, were both pronounced dead at the scene.

The 77-year-old male driver of the Peugeot was flown to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries.

In a statement released by police Ms Lawson’s family said: “Amanda was a much-loved partner and mother to three young boys.

“She will be sorely missed by family and friends.”

Both families have asked for their privacy to be respected.

Sgt Dave Cooper said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of both women who died.

“Inquiries continue to establish the full circumstances and we ask anyone who can assist who has not already spoken to officers to get in touch.”
