But have you ever wondered what DFS actually stands for? It might surprise you that it actually has nothing to do with sofas.
It turns out that the name historically stands for the Doncaster Furniture Store, with the company based in the South Yorkshire city.
DFS started above a billiard hall in Doncaster more than 50 years ago, with the company now operating 118 showrooms.
Though it still has a number of showrooms, the furniture company is predominantly online. The DFS business was founded by Graham Kirkham with a single store trading as Northern Upholstery in 1969.
It changed its name to DFS Furniture Limited in 1983, becoming the UK’s largest retailer in the upholstery market in 2003.
