The statement described Ms Gibson, who was shopping on the day of the attack, as a devoted Christian.

“She was a young woman with much to look forward to.

“Her faith was strong and she was preparing to embark on a new chapter of her life with her fiancé,” her family said.

“Esther’s murder cut short a life that was rich in kindness, love and promise.”

Her sister, Caroline Martin, then read a poem in tribute.

Inquiry chairman Lord Turnbull described Ms Gibson as a caring person “with a strong sense of community”.

“Esther was on the brink of a new life full of promise and happiness which so was so cruelly robbed of,” he added.

Ms Gibson had been due to get married the following summer.

It has previously been reported that she and her fiancé had their engagement portrait taken in Omagh that day.
