Olympics 2024: Chelsie Giles one of five Britons named in judo squad

Britain’s Chelsie Giles will look to add another Olympic medal to her tally after being named in the judo squad for the Paris Games.

Giles, 27, won Britain’s first medal of the Tokyo Games three years ago with bronze in the women’s -52kg event.

She went on to win European gold and world silver in 2022, and has won three medals so far this season.

Giles is one of five British judokas who will compete at this summer’s Olympics.

Lucy Renshall (-63kg), a four-time British champion and European bronze medallist, will also be making her second Games appearance.

Three Olympic debutants are Lele Nairne (-57kg), a British champion; Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Jemima Yeats-Brown (-70kg); and World Championship bronze medal winner Emma Reid (-78kg).

“We are confident that we have a team that can compete with the best in the world,” said British Judo performance director Nigel Donohue.
