Nottingham city roads closed due to suspicious package

A number of roads have been shut in Nottingham city centre while police deal with a suspicious package.

Nottinghamshire Police said it had put “multiple road closures” in force around Old Market Square on Tuesday morning.

A spokesperson said the package had “been made safe”, but the closures remained in place for “investigation work”.

Old Market Square, Long Row, Friar Lane, Wheeler Gate, King Street, Queen Street, Market Street, Exchange Walk, Parliament Street, South Sherwood Street, Maid Marian Way and Tollhouse Lane are all closed, the force said.

Nottingham Express Transit said trams were unable to run between Royal Centre and its Toton and Clifton destinations due to a “police incident”.

Nottingham City Transport said its bus routes were also affected while Trent Barton said services would terminate outside of the cordons on Mount Road and at Broad Marsh Bus Station, and asked passengers to “allow extra time”.
