An independent lifeboat charity has made a fresh appeal for support in the face of soaring running costs.

Nith Inshore Rescue covers the River Nith into the Solway Firth from its base at Glencaple.

It is only the second time in more than 40 years that it has appealed for help to cover costs – following a similar call two years ago.

Treasurer Jamie Milligan said they were grateful to those who already supported them but needed help to cope with a “huge rise in running costs” particularly in terms of insurance and energy bills.

He added: “We are asking people to help us by making regular small donations.

“A monthly donation of £10 by around 400 individuals and companies will cover all our annual running costs.”

He urged them to sign up through a JustGiving page set up to support them.

Chairman Peter Bryden added: “This is only the second time in our 40-year history that we have had to ask for funds in this way, with the first being just two years ago.

“We urgently appeal to our community, individuals, and businesses to support us in any way possible and help us continue our vital work.

“Every donation matters and has the power to save lives at sea and in our inland waters.”
