NHS fraudster who lied about going to Oxford University jailed

A man who fraudulently secured 13 NHS jobs by lying about his qualifications and experience has been jailed for four years.

Amran Hussain, 40, of French Street, Westerham, appeared at Maidstone Crown Court after previously admitting fraud offences that cost taxpayers almost £170,000.

Investigators found he falsely claimed he had attended the University of Oxford and had held senior posts within the health service.

Dave Horsley, from the NHS Counter Fraud Authority, said the money paid to Hussain could have been spent on patient care.

“It is all of us – as the stakeholders in the NHS – who are the losers out of this,” he told the BBC.

Welcoming the sentence, Hosley added that he was hopeful it would “send a strong message to anybody minded to defraud the NHS”.

“It will not be tolerated,” he said.

“It is not a victimless crime, as the NHS is for the public good.”
