Netflix Agatha Christie show filmed in Bristol, Bath and Somerset

Parts of the West Country will feature in the new Agatha Christie thriller which has launched on Netflix.

Locations for The Seven Dials Mystery include Bristol, the West Somerset Railway and Great Pulteney Street in Bath, which will feature front and centre in the show.

Penned by Broadchurch writer Chris Chibnall, it stars Martin Freeman and Helena Bonham-Carter, and is centred around a murder at a lavish country house.

Bath and North East Somerset Council said the show generated “direct income” for the authority, as well as supporting the wider local economy with hospitality and accommodation.

Location manager Dee Gregson said they picked the West Somerset Railway while looking for a rural and pretty place to shoot.

She said: “We did a lot of research about the railway – it was quite a big project.

“They wanted the train to stop somewhere quite scenic.. It goes along Blue Anchor bay and we were able to stop it there and see the beach and the countryside, and it was all very beautiful.”

While filming on the trains, cast and crew also made use of local facilities, including staying at the Luttrell Arms Hotel in Dunster.

Owner Anne Way said the stars were “very lovely” when they stayed at the 15th century hotel, noting Bonham-Carter was specifically interested in its interiors.

Way said it was exciting for the area to be involved in filming, adding West Somerset was a “well-kept secret”.

In Bath, councillor Manda Rigby said although the production crew were only there for two days, her teams “were busy in the weeks before removing any trace of modern life including bus stops, bins, lighting and all modern signage”.

“As well as generating direct income for the council, filming also has an impact on the wider local economy with production companies spending on accommodation and hospitality and in this case making generous donations to local organisations,” she added.
