A county’s Muslim community has expressed its “deepest condolences” after a young police officer died when he was struck by a car when responding to a road crash.
Northamptonshire Police said PC Faizaan Najeeb, 24, was attending a single-vehicle crash on Station Road, Raunds, on 19 September when he was hit by a Volkswagen Polo. He died in hospital on Friday.
A man in his 20s arrested at the scene of the crash was later released on bail.
In an open letter, Alaa Abouzanad, chairman of the Northamptonshire Council of Mosques, said the PC’s “service and dedication to keeping our communities safe will always be remembered and honoured”.
The letter, addressed to Ivan Balhatchet, Northamptonshire’s Chief Constable, said: “At this difficult time, please know that our thoughts and prayers are with his family, his colleagues, and the wider policing community.
“We stand with you in solidarity and support.”
The officer joined Bedfordshire Police in February 2021, working with the Bedford Community Policing Team.
He joined the Northamptonshire force in May 2022, serving with the response team in Wellingborough.
A two-minute silence is due to take place this week at the Wootton Hall headquarters in Northampton.
His collar number P1967 has been retired in his memory.
