Newcastle prop Murray McCallum has signed a new two-year contract to stay at the struggling Premiership side.

The 28-year-old, who won three Scotland caps in 2018, joined the Falcons from Edinburgh in 2023 and has made 40 appearances, scoring one try.

He said: “My family and I are buzzing to be sticking around.

“We’ve made it our home, I can see improvements happening at the club and I really enjoy coming into work every day.”

Falcons director of rugby Steve Diamond, who previously worked with McCallum at Worcester before the Warriors’ demise, said the versatile prop is “a very important part of our squad up here at Newcastle”.

“He plays on both sides of the front row to a high level, he’s very durable and he’s brilliant behind the scenes,” he added.

“He’s a big character around the place who really helps drive the culture, and it’s great that he wants to be part of the growth that lies ahead for Newcastle Falcons.”

The Falcons have won just two games in the Premiership this season and are currently bottom of the table.

They next face Gloucester in the Premiership Rugby Cup on Friday 28 February.
