A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after an 87-year-old man died following an alleged robbery in north London.

Officers were called to reports of a robbery at a property on Goodchild Road, Manor House, at about 17:53 BST on Tuesday, a Metropolitan Police spokesperson said.

The victim was found at the scene with life-threatening injuries and taken to hospital by ambulance. He died in hospital on Thursday.

A 59-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and robbery. He remains in custody.

Det Ch Insp Mark Rogers, who is leading the investigation, said: “This is a horrific incident which very sadly resulted in an innocent man dying. His family are being supported by specialist officers.”

He said officers were not looking for anyone else in connection with the death but appealed for anyone with information to contact police.

Ch Supt Brittany Clarke said: “We know many people will be very concerned by what has happened and while we have a man in custody, local patrols have been stepped up.”

The man in custody is also under arrest on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence and assault on police.
