Motherwell: Jens Berthel Askou ‘happy’ at Fir Park amid ‘natural’ links

Kilmarnock have just appointed Neil McCann after Stuart Kettlewell’s exit, Celtic have installed Martin O’Neill until the summer after axing Wilfried Nancy, while Rangers have Danny Rohl in charge after dispensing with Russell Martin earlier in the season.

Now Aberdeen are seeking a replacement after sacking Jimmy Thelin in what has become a season of instability in Scotland’s top flight.

Askou himself had short spells as assistant with Sparta Prague then Copenhagen before Motherwell came calling.

However, he said: “I’m extremely happy to be here. I’m like everyone else here – really enjoying what we’re doing and want to see how far we can take it.”

Askou was keen to downplay the notion of a title challenge, suggesting it is basically impossible over the course of a campaign as a result of the gap in resources between Motherwell and bigger clubs.

He added that their priority is to secure a top-six finish and progress from there.
