Mobility scooter rider, 84, dies after being hit by car in Airdrie

The man was hit as he rode his mobility scooter on Gartlea Road in Airdrie

An 84-year-old man who was critically injured after being hit by a car while riding a mobility scooter has died in hospital.

The crash happened at about 16:50 on Friday 1 August on Gartlea Road in Airdrie, North Lanarkshire.

The mobility scooter was struck by a Vauxhall Mokka driven by a 43-year-old man.

The injured man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where he died on Thursday.

Police have made a fresh appeal for witnesses to the crash to get in touch.

Sgt Ross Allison said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died at this very difficult time.

Inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the crash and we would urge anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has any information, to come forward.”
