Mitchy Ntelo: Aberdeen sign Belgian forward on initial two-year deal

Aberdeen have signed Mitchy Ntelo from Swiss side Yverdon-Sport for an undisclosed fee, with manager Stephen Robinson saying the Belgian forward’s “versatility was one of the biggest attractions”.

The 25-year-old, who can operate centrally or in wide areas, has signed a two-year deal with the club-held option of a further year.

Ntelo is nearing 150 club appearances and has scored 30 goals, including six in six starts last season on loan at Bulgarian club Botev Vratsa.

“We’ve tracked Mitchy for some time and we’re delighted to finally bring him to Aberdeen,” said Robinson.

“He is tall, exceptionally quick and, importantly for us, is equally comfortable playing as a central striker or in the wide areas.

“Although he’s scored the majority of his goals from the central position, we believe he has all the attributes to make a real impact from the flanks. He gives us another dimension in those positions while still providing genuine competition at centre-forward whenever we need it.”

Ntelo started his career at hometown club Standard Liege before a productive loan spell at Dutch side MVV Maastricht.

Moves to Charleroi and Bulgaria’s Lokomotiv Plovdiv followed before he joined Yverdon-Sport two years ago. After the Swiss side’s top-flight relegation he was loaned to Botev Vratsa earlier this year.

“This is a big step for me, in terms of joining a club with such a great support and history, so it is a proud moment to be here,” Ntelo said.

“When I heard a team like Aberdeen wanted to sign me, I was desperate to make this happen. I know this club is one of the biggest teams in the league.”
