Revamped Aye Write book festival will not return until 2027

The four special events include talks by former First Minister Humza Yousaf and BBC journalist Laura Kuenssberg.

Last year Glasgow Life said the Creative Scotland grant it had been awarded would go towards “the delivery of Aye Write in 2025, 2026 and 2027.”

The organisation now refer to the funding covering 2025-26, 2026-27 and 2027-28, rather than calendar years.

Past full editions of the event lasted 10 days and 2026 saw 180 authors appear.

Aye Write’s rrganisers said the festival, which was first held in 2005, was now evolving to “create an even better experience for book lovers while welcoming new audiences.”

Next year will see new venues in use and “immersive experiences”, with Glasgow Life saying there would be events focused on celebrating some of the public’s favourite books released in recent years.

Wee Write, the children’s book festival that usually accompanies Aye Write, has also been confirmed to return next spring.

Bailie Annette Christie, the chair of Glasgow Life and convenor for Culture, Sport and International Relations at Glasgow City Council, said the festival was entering “its next chapter”.

She added: “Returning to its traditional springtime slot in 2027, the festival will offer a fresh, experience-led programme while continuing to champion great writing and opportunities for people across Glasgow and beyond to engage with books and storytelling.”
