A man has made history by becoming the first person to cross the Strait of Messina in Italy on foot.
The journey across the 3.6km (2.4 mile) slackline took Estonia’s Jaan Roose almost three hours. He covered a distance longer than 30 football fields on webbed fabric that was only 1.9cm (0.75in) wide.
His record attempt started from a 265m (870ft) tower and he managed to cover a distance surpassing the previous longest slackline walk world record of 2,710m (8,943ft).
A fall from the slackline just 80m (262ft) from the finish meant that his record couldn’t be validated. The rules require a completed crossing without a fall.
