Erik ten Hag’s side were careless in possession in the first half but took the lead through Bruno Fernandes’ penalty after James Tarkowski caught Alejandro Garnacho inside the area.
Referee Simon Hooper pointed to the spot again when Garnacho was tripped by Ben Godfrey, and Marcus Rashford sent Jordan Pickford the wrong day to double the hosts’ advantage.
Everton registered over 20 attempts at Old Trafford but rarely troubled Andre Onana in the home goal.
